James Tanner

James is a true product of Melbourne’s basketball pathways – he played VJBL representative basketball throughout his junior years, before heading off to the USA to try his luck in the  super-competitive California Junior College competition. Not done with playing, James suits up in Blackburn Vikings senior men’s team at Big V championship level.

James’ coaching experience includes working with multiple teams and academies while he completed his Bachelor of Business studies at Monash University. A highly qualified basketball lifer, he now heads up the Melbourne United Basketball Academy where he and the MU team offer young hoopers an introduction into the world class training methods that underpin the Melbourne United NBL program.

James is also a passionate AFL fan and Collingwood supporter – luckily for him he has a basketball CV that the BWB committee just couldn’t overlook!
